Confucius Institute on Science and Technology Adds Luster to International Cooperation
Mobile payment, shared economy, high speed railway and other China¡¯s latest technological accomplishments were clearly introduced by handsome men and pretty ladies with fluent Mandarin, great confidence and proper word choice, winning rounds of applause from the judges and students.
And that was just what happened at the Youth Technology Translation and Interpretation Competition held recently by the Confucius Institute on Science and Technology at Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU). 50 contestants from Belarus, China, Russia, Ukraine and other countries successfully fulfilled their tasks without scripts in live simultaneous interpretation competition.
The institute at BNTU is the only of its kind worldwide and was co-founded by Northeastern University and BNTU. From the very beginning, the two universities, with a shared aspiration for scientific and technological innovation as well as a common mission of cultural exchange, jointly set up a Confucius Institute featuring scientific and technological exchanges to promote the exchange of science and technology and personnel training between China and Belarus.
In 2014, the Confucius Institute on Science and Technology officially unveiled its nameplate. At the unveiling ceremony, Tozik, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister said that he hopes the institute will become a model and bridge for the scientific and technological cooperation and exchange between China and Belarus and train scientific and technological talents for such large cooperation projects as the China-Belarus Industrial Park, injecting new impetus into science and technology cooperation between the two countries.
In order to highlight the scientific and technological features of the institute, Northeastern University, while promoting Chinese culture and the achievements of China¡¯s reform and opening up, focused on popularizing China¡¯s brilliant ancient and modern science and technology achievements.
At the institute¡¯s 3rd anniversary ceremony a few days ago, Franz, a student representative of the institute, said: ¡°Having learned Chinese for over a year, I really enjoyed my school life here. Now, I have fallen in love with China and Chinese culture. I also hope that someday I can study in China to experience the extensive and profound Chinese culture and the rapid development of modern science and technology in China.¡±
