The Delegation of Mainstream Media from Asia-Europe and Africa visits the Confucius Institute Headquarters

On the morning of August 3rd, the 41-person Delegation of Mainstream Media from Asia, Europe and Africa paid a visit to the Confucius Institute Headquarters. They visited both of the China Exploratorium and the Confucius Institute Achievement Exhibition. During the visit, they also attended the Exchange Conference held by the Confucius Institute.

The theme of this visit was "promoting the dream of linking the Belt and Road, and mutually promoting media development". Mr. Ma Jianfei, Party Secretary of Hanban and Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, met with and answered questions from mainstream media leaders like chief editors, deputy chief editors and senior editors from 27 countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Egypt, Senegal and Sudan.

Mr. Ma Jianfei welcomed the Delegation of Mainstream Media in his speech. “As a bridge for language and cultural communication between China and foreign countries, and an important platform for the world to learn about China, the Confucius Institute is very popular among people around the world and is highly regarded by the media”, he said. He introduced the development of the Confucius Institute around the world, especially in countries along the Belt and Road, countries primarily between China and the rest of Eurasia. He said the Confucius Institute is actively serving the “Belt and Road” Initiative, and serves fundamental and leading role in the promotion and implementation of its development. It contributes positively to bridging language and cultural exchange gaps between China and Belt and Road countries and help connecting with these countries better following the “Five Links”.

At the Q&A session, Mr. Ma Jianfei and others answered questions about the importance and meaning of the Confucius Institute, how to bid to open an institute, the Chinese Proficiency tests and how to apply for scholarships and localize textbooks and so on.

During the visit, the delegation members also visited the Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Resources Exhibition.
