The Release Ceremony of the Cambodian Version of President Xi Jinping’s Book "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" Held in Phnom Penh

On the morning of Apr. 11th, the release ceremony of the Cambodian version of President Xi Jinping’s book: Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was held at the prime minister's office, Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodian, and Jiang Jianguo, the head of the State Council Information Office of China, delivered a speech respectively. Nearly 1000 relevant figures from China and Cambodia attended this ceremony, including Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Minister of State of Cambodia, other ministers, the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo, Chinese and foreign directors of the Confucius Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia, and representatives from Cambodia and the Chinese enterprises in Cambodia .

As Prime Minister Hun Sen Cambodia said in his speech, the book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China generalized President Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on state governance, which represents the essence of the socialist construction in China. Hun Sen said he was impressed by President Xi Jinping’s ideas on the Chinese Dream, state governance, the deep reforms, rule of law, anti-corruption, and China’s pursuit of peaceful development. The “Belt and Road” initiative by China, greatly benefits the entire world, especially Asian countries in infrastructure construction. He also advised the officials, scholars and students of the Cambodian government to read the book carefully and draw on China’s experience to promote the development of Cambodia.

Hun Sen appreciated the efforts of the Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia for the successful release of the Cambodian version of the book. In addition, other books edited and published by the Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, including the Cambodian, Chinese and English versions of The Customs of Cambodia, Confucius: the Uncrowned King, Friendship Through Millennium: The History of Sino-Cambodian Exchanges (Ancient Times—Gan Di ), the Sino-Cambodian Relations in the Era of Norendon Sihanouk. all embodied the efforts and contribution that the Cambodian Royal Academy of Confucius had made to Sino-Cambodian cultural exchanges.

Jiang Jianguo, the head of the State Council Information Office, remarked that in the last five years since the 18th National Congress of CPC in 2012, China has experienced sound economic growth and social development with the highest speed. And it’s also a period in which the Chinese people got the greatest benefits. It is the correct guidance of President Xi Jinping’s thoughts on state governance that led to such brilliant achievements. The thread running through this book is the people-centered theme. This theme is embodied in the value orientation of treasuring efforts from the general public, in the institutional arrangements stressing fairness and justice and in real practice and solid work. China and Cambodia are good friends who highly trust each other and reliable companions who cooperate sincerely with each other, sharing a common destiny. We hope to take this opportunity to further exchange our understanding of state governance, and to enhance the friendly partnership between China and Cambodia.

On the release ceremony, Khlot Thyda, dean of Royal Academy of Cambodia and director of the Confucius Institute, introduced how the book had been translated into Cambodian: On Feb. 2nd, 2015, the Confucius Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia held the promotion conference for the translation. After the conference, the Confucius Institute arranged the translation in accordance with the spirit of the promotion conference. With the help and support of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia as well as the joint efforts of the experts from both sides, the Confucius Institute completed the translation. Kholt Thyda said that the two countries will strengthen mutual cooperation and translate more books for scholars’ reference in academic study.
