On the afternoon of June 22nd, accompanied by Ms. Tatyana Karimova, wife of Uzbek President Islam Karimov,?Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, paid a visit to the Confucius Institute in Tashkent, where she conducted cordial exchanges with teachers and students of the Institute.

As the first one launched in Central Asia, the Confucius Institute in Tashkent has become the largest Chinese language and culture center in Uzbekistan, cultivating more than 3,000 students over the past 11 years since its establishment.
Upon her arrival,?Professor Peng received a warm welcome from teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, and students in Chinese cheongsam and traditional Uzbek costumes presented flowers to the visiting guests.

At the Chinese calligraphy class, where the air was permeated with intoxicating fragrance of Chinese ink, the Chinese teacher was elaborating the evolution of the Chinese character ¡°xue¡± (learn) to the students and taught them to practice this character on Xuan paper (a high quality paper made in Xuancheng, Anhui Province for traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy). After carefully observing how the students held and wielded the brush pen on the paper,?Professor Peng, greatly amazed, praised their wonderful Chinese handwriting and encouraged them to work harder and practice more.

At the cooking class, the students were learning how to make dumplings. The teacher invited?Professor Peng to elaborate and show to the students how to make dumplings. Quickly accepting the request,?Professor Peng said, ¡°It¡¯s my pleasure. I often make dumplings during the Chinese Spring Festival.¡± Then, she started to roll out the dumpling wrappers and wrap fillings ¡¡, whose skillful moves won warm applause from the teachers and students of the Institute. Later,?Professor Peng also learned to make traditional Uzbek food, Samsa (baked bun).

At the library of the Institute, Uzbek Director of the Confucius Institute introduced the collection of books and the use of teaching materials to?Professor Peng. She delivered the list of books donated by China to the Confucius Institute and stated that young people should carry forward the friendship between people of the two countries. She also expressed her hopes that the students would work more diligently in their studies so as to become useful talents and make contributions to the friendship between China and Uzbekistan.

Professor?Peng also watched the spectacular performances in the Chinese language by the Uzbek students, including the song Yellow Earth of the High Plateau (Loess Plateau), poem recitation Home of China-Uzbekistan Friendship and speech Learn to Speak Chinese and Make Friends Everywhere, leading?Professor Peng to praise them as envoys of cultural exchanges between China and Uzbekistan.
