Delegation led by Deputy Director General of Hanban Wang Yongli visits Confucius Institute at National University of Surabaya, Indonesia
On May 27, 2014, the delegation led by Wang Yongli, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban, visited the Confucius Institute at the National University of Surabaya (UNSEA), Indonesia and had friendly talks with Prof. Dr. H. Muchlas Samani, Rector of UNSEA, Prof. Dr. Subandi, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts, and Prof. Dr. Hj. Lies Amin Lestari, Director of the Chinese Department.
Rector Samani first expressed a warm welcome to Deputy Director General Wang Yongli and Consul-General Yu Hong of the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute at UNSEA, since its establishment, had made outstanding achievements in Chinese language education, teacher training, and scholarship candidate selection. Moreover, Chinese language and cultural activities held by the Confucius Institute provided teachers, students and local people of Surabaya with diversified cultural experiences, all of which benefited from the support of Hanban in funds and teaching staff. He added that UNSEA would continue to support and cooperate with the Confucius Institute, thus promoting the development of Chinese language education.

Deputy Director General Wang Yongli, on behalf of Hanban, expressed his gratitude to UNSEA and the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya for their great support. He also praised and encouraged the Confucius Institute at UNSEA for their work in Chinese language education, teaching material compilation, cultural promotion, etc. He believes that with the increase of the cooperation between China and Indonesia, the Confucius Institute would play a more and more important role in training local talents of Chinese language and promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries. Therefore, it should make efforts not only to explore new space for pushing its own development as well as strengthening the cooperation and exchanges between both sides, but also to carry out actively such programs as interschool cooperation, visiting delegation to China and setup of Chinese language test centers.

With Director Chen Jing as their guide, the delegation led by Deputy Director General Wang Yongli visited the facilities of the Confucius Institute at UNSEA, such as offices, classrooms and the library, and had a cordial talk with students there. Wang kindly asked students about their lives and studies. The students answered his question in fluent Chinese and expressed their urgent wishes to study in China. In order to encourage them to learn Chinese well, the staffs of Confucius Institute Headquarters brought Chinese dictionaries as gifts for the students. In the library, Deputy Director General Wang and Consul-General Yu visited the exhibition of students¡¯ assignments and highly praised them for their neat Chinese writing and fluent Chinese speaking. After the visit, the Chinese and Indonesian sides exchanged gifts and took a photo together.
